“Big Chill” a Big Success

The “Big Chill” was held Saturday night at the American Legion, one year after being cancelled by a hurricane that hit the Carolinas, and the event was a tremendous success.    Thanks to organizers Annette Cox Erny and Greg Oldham, the “Big Chill” brought those that graduated from Sanford Central and Lee County High School in the 60s, 70s, and 80s together for a night of fun and remembering.   Food was prepared by Oldham and Phil Bray from Goodfellas Grill in Sanford and attended by several hundred alumni that enjoyed the music of Fryd on the Boat and Nantucket.    The weather cooperated this time with overcast skies to keep the heat away and no rain.    Attendees were treated to some great BBQ, sides, and plenty of desserts and some music that got the crowd on its feet.

Oldham, who provided the BBQ for the event said, “We viewed this as an opportunity to enjoy a band we grew up with and to spend time with people we haven’t seen in a long time.   Many of those here tonight had to travel to be here and it’s been great seeing people we haven’t seen in a long time.   We hope to continue this tradition on a yearly basis and already looking forward to next year.”

The event raised over $2,000 for the Topsail Beach Breast Cancer. Food was also donated to the Bread Basket as well as to Veterans at the American Legion.

Oldham and Erny both offered thanks to all the volunteers that helped put this event together and were thankful of the hundreds that came to enjoy the event.
