High School Football and Thanksgiving Day – A Treat for Lee County Fans

The Lee County Yellow Jackets practiced today on Thanksgiving morning with a light walk through and a cover-dish lunch as they prepare for tomorrow’s game with the Cleveland Rams at Paul Gay Stadium in Sanford.   The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the 3rd round of the State 3AA playoffs and get the rare opportunity to still be practicing and playing during Thanksgiving.    This will be 13-0 Lee County’s first trip back to the 3rd round since 2016 and hopes in the Brick City are high for this year’s team.

The 12-1 Cleveland Rams will face off with Lee County this Friday night at 7:30.   The Rams are the Greater Neuse 3A Champions and feature one of the better running backs in the state.   Tons of similarities exist between these two teams in terms of statistics and many view this game as a tossup.  Both teams totally dominated their conferences.   Both teams average 43+ points a game and give up less than 12.  Both teams have been highly ranked all year and are expected to be right where they are this Friday night.    The Yellow Jackets have more experience at the skilled positions and that may be all they edge Lee County needs – as both teams will have to rely on their experience to adjust to what arises in this 3rd round matchup.

Local football fans are in for a treat.    Zero per cent chance of rain and temps in the mid-40s will await the fans at game time.    Fans can spend a day (or two) eating turkey, enjoying family and friends, and then bundling up to watch a high level 3rd round game in Sanford on Friday night.   A good crowd and vocal support will be needed this Friday night and hopefully the local high school football fans will come enjoy the show.      It’s been a great season for the Lee County Yellow Jackets – adding a win on Thanksgiving weekend would put the icing on the pumpkin pie!
