Lee County Host Anson County This Friday

The Lee County Yellow Jackets will host the Anson County Bearcats in a non-conference matchup this Friday night at Paul Gay Stadium in Sanford.   

Lee County is currently 5-0 to start the season and currently ranked #8 in the East for all classifications in the High School OT poll, with MaxPreps ranking the Yellow Jackets #15 in the state 3A poll and #47 for all classifications in North Carolina.   Lee County has outscored its first 5 opponents 231-56 despite missing leading rusher AJ Boulware for two games to injury.

Anson (3-2) has won 3 straight and is currently ranked by MaxPreps as the #7 2A school in the state and ranked #57 for all teams in North Carolina.   After losing to Monroe 35-24 and Richmond 33-0 to start the season, the Bearcats have reeled off 3 straight – beating Cuthbertson 42-13, Chesterfield, SC by 43-3 and Jay Robinson by 42-7.

Anson is led offensively by running back Dequan Sturdivant who has 725 yards rushing thus far through 5 games and currently averaging 9.1 yards per carry.    QB Wesley Lear is 41 of 81 passing on the season for 738 yards and 9 TD’s.   Anson has 1634 yards of total offense on the season.

Lee County is led in rushing by AJ Boulware with 376 yards in 3 games with Larry Baldwin contributing 305 yards.   QB Colin Johnson is 48 of 82 passing for 759 yards and the Jacket total offense to date is 1802 yards.

Friday’s game will air on WFJA 105.5 FM in the sandhills and streaming on-line at www.wfjawwgpradio.com.   The Steve Burdeau Coach’s Show will air at 6:00 with a live pre-game from the field at 6:30.   Kickoff is at 7:00.
