Southern Lee Boys 4-0 in Tri-County – Take a 2-Game Lead

Southern Lee won their 4th straight game to start Tri-County 3A play and find themselves atop the league standings with an early 2-game lead. Southern Lee beat (2-2) Harnett Central at home and find themselves in control just shy of the halfway point of the conference season. Lee County, Triton, Harnett Central, and Union Pines all find themselves at 2-2 in league play with 6 league games remaining. On the girls side – the Lady Trojans of Harnett Central improved to 4-0 as well to hold a one-game lead in conference play over Union Pines. This coming week WFJA will be on the Lee County (2-2) campus for a Tuesday matchup with Southern Lee (4-0) and again on Friday as the Yellow Jackets host Triton (2-2). Southern Lee 66, Harnett Central 52

The Southern Lee Cavaliers won their 4th consecutive game to start conference play with a big 66-52 win over Harnett Central at home on Friday. The Cavs hit three 3s early on to grab a 14-8 lead at the end of one and pushed to lead to 17 late in the 1st half. The Trojans chipped away and cut the lead the 5 points in the final minutes but Southern Lee scored the final 9 points to get the win. Se’Vion Clay led the Cavaliers with 22 points and Makyi Butler at 18 points and 13 boards. Southern Lee now stands at 4-0 in Tri-County 3A play but will now play 4 of their next 5 conference games on the road. Southern Lee will travel to Lee County Tuesday while Harnett Central will host Triton.

Lee County 54, Western Harnett 50

The Yellow Jackets jumped to an early 7-point lead and led by as many as 10 before holding on at the free throw line to win 54-50 at Western Harnett. Lee County won their 2nd consecutive road game in league play to improve to 2-2 while the Eagles lost their 4th consecutive close game in league play to fall to 0-4. Lee County will host Southern Lee next Tuesday and the Eagles will travel to Union Pines.

Union Pines 66, Triton 52

The Union Pines Vikings led throughout to pick up a big road win in conference play, beating Triton 66-52 in Erwin. The Vikings led by as many as 19 and evened their conference record at 2-2 while Triton fell to 2-2 in Tri-County 3A play. Union Pines will host Western Harnett on Tuesday while Triton will travel to Harnett Central.
