Southern Lee – Harnett Central Preview

The Southern Lee Cavaliers (5-3, 2-1) will host the Harnett Central Trojans (5-4, 1-2) this Friday night on Senior Night at Cavalier Stadium.   This game is a must win for both teams as they fight for playoff positions within the Tri-County 3A Conference.

When Harnett Central Has the Ball

The Trojan offense features several playmakers that must get it done for Harnett Central to be effective offensively.   Devin Perry shoulders most of the running with Everette Blake as a main playmaker for Harnett Central.    But the Trojans seem the most dangerous when QB Jaden Bryant must scramble and make plays.   Bryant has good speed and an ability to elude the rush and just the type of player that can make the Trojans a tough out.   Southern Lee must defend the run and stop Perry, a tough straight-ahead runner and figure a way to contain Bryant.

When Southern Lee Has the Ball

The Cavaliers have regrouped with QB Deandre McAllister and still learning where they are offensively.   Southern Lee scored only 3 points in the first 41 minutes against Union Pines last week and 20 points in the final 7 minutes of play.     Tanoah Lockley and Elijah Foxx are explosive, and the Cavaliers need to continue to find ways to get them the ball.   The Trojans defense struggled to stop the run against Lee County last week, and Cavalier Coach Ken Neal will test the Trojan run defense early in this one.

Intangibles

Southern Lee has this one at home on Senior Night and should have no problem getting up for this one.   The Cavaliers know this is a must win game and should be ready right from the start.   Southern can win their last two games (final week against Lee County) and possibly end up as a #1, #2 or #3 seed from the conference, so a lot to play for this Friday night.    Southern Lee has been opportunistic all season and have a +13 turnover margin and the Trojans can’t afford any gifts to Southern in this one.   The Trojans still have an outside shot at finishing 3-2 in conference play and obtaining a playoff spot but will need some help.
