Cavalier Complete Suspended Game – Lose 28-17 To Triton

Eleven days after the opening kickoff, the Southern Lee Cavaliers and Triton Hawks got to finish off their weather suspended game from September 26th, with an early evening Monday night finish. Triton, despite two fourth quarter fumbles, ran past the Cavaliers 28-17 in Carolina Pines 6A action.

The game resumed with 42 seconds left in the third quarter and the Hawks leading 21-17. After a false start penalty and a short gain on first down, the quarter ended and the teams exchanged turnovers and punts for the fourth, until a Sophomore Quarterback Ben Harrington pass, was intercepted by the Hawks O’Brian Ward, who ran it back 21 yards for the score to put the game away.

The Cavs started fast, scoring less than two minutes into the game.  After a couple of running plays for little yardage, Harrington threw a quick out to Junior Wide Receiver Kessler Petrarca who took the rest of the way 66 yards for a score and an early 7-0 lead.

Triton came right back with a touchdown of their own, as the teams traded scoring drives in the first quarter that ended with the Cavaliers leading 14-13, after a 33-yard touchdown run by Junior Running Back Kaiden Blackshear-Watson. Southern Lee’s defense struggled to stop the Hawks ground game on this night, giving up 262 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns.

Working the clock with just one timeout in the first half, Southern Lee added a 24-yard field goal by Petrarca as the half expired to make the score 21-17 Triton.

Southern Lee (0-6, 0-3) will host first place Union Pines (5-1, 3-0) on Friday night.  The Southern Lee – Triton game Friday night was suspended for lightning with 42 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter.
