Lee County Overcomes Anson 32-25, Now 6-0

The Lee County Yellow Jackets improved to 6-0 on the season beating Anson 32-25 in a game that started Friday night and resumed tonight (Mon) at 6:00 with just over 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.  The game re-start began with Anson leading 13-7 and 3rd and goal at the Lee County two-yard line.  The Bearcats scored on the 1st play to take a 19-7 lead.  

That’s when Lee County went to work.   First, a 4-play drive that covered 61 yards in :45 seconds and AJ Boulware scoring from 24 yards out with 3:09 in the 3rd quarter.    Next after holding Anson to a quick three-and-out, Lee County tackled the punter before he could get a kick away at the Anson two and Boulware punched it in from 1 yard out to give Lee County its first lead at 20-19.   On the 2nd play of Anson’s next possession, Larry Baldwin picked off a Bearcat pass at the Anson 43 and returned to the 30-yard line.  Lee scored in 3 plays with Colin Johnson finding a wide-open Timmy Lett in the right corner of the end zone with 11:13 left in the 4th quarter.      Johnson was 9 of 10 in the 2nd half passing for 96 yards.  

Lee County finished the non-conference portion of its schedule at 6-0.   The Yellow Jackets are off this Friday night and play next on the road at Triton on Oct 11th.

  • Anson finished with 20 1st downs to Lee County’s 15 but the Bearcats had 15 total penalties in the game.    The Bearcats had two turnovers (both interceptions by Larry Baldwin) while Lee County had none.
  • AJ Boulware was named the Norman Financial Group Player of the Game and Larry Baldwin’s interception with Lee County leading 20-19 was the F&W Playhouse Play of the Game.
  • The Yellow Jackets got great play from the defensive front on Monday night with two quick stops that turned the game around.   Deandre Dingle-Prince, Delmaz Jennings, Derran McKoy and Larry Baldwin led the way.
  • Lee County will go for its 11th straight Tri-County conference win and their 29th straight regular season win at Triton on October 11th.
