Tri-County 3A Football Wrap-Up – Week #1
The football teams in the Tri-County 3A Conference had bad weather, delays, and postponements but finally finished week one of the high school football season with a 4-2 record in non-conference play. Below are results for week 1.
Harnett Central – (Sat) – The Trojans beat West Johnson in the rain Saturday night at home by a final score of 7-0. Brandon Booker scored the game’s only TD from 9 yards out to lead the Trojans. Harnett Central will play at Overhills on Friday.
Union Pines – (Mon) – The Vikings led early but overcame a 19-18 deficit with the game’s final touchdown to beat Montgomery Central 24-19 in the home opener for Union Pines. The Vikings will be on the road at St. Pauls this Friday.
Lee County – (Mon) – The Yellow Jackets got 144 yards and 3 TDs from AJ Boulware to beat EE Smith 47-18 in the home opener for Lee County. Lee County will be on the road at Northwood this Friday.
Western Harnett – (Mon) – Western Harnett overcame a late deficit with an 80-yard TD run by Daquan McNeil in the final quarter to beat Douglas Byrd by a 24-20 score. Western Harnett will host Smithfield-Selma this Friday.
Triton – (Mon) – Triton lead Overhills 48-30 in the 4th quarter but 22 straight by Overhills in the final minutes upset Triton at home in the opener. Overhills had over 400 yards passing, mostly in the 2nd half to stage the comeback. Triton travels to Southview Friday.
Southern Lee – (Mon) – The Cavalier run game was shut down by Hoke Co and the Bucks got a road win in the season opener, beating Southern Lee 19-6. Southern Lee will travel to Pinecrest this coming Friday.
