Lee County Host Anson County This Friday
The Lee County Yellow Jackets will host the Anson County Bearcats in a non-conference matchup this Friday night at Paul Gay Stadium in Sanford.
Lee County is currently 5-0 to start the season and currently ranked #8 in the East for all classifications in the High School OT poll, with MaxPreps ranking the Yellow Jackets #15 in the state 3A poll and #47 for all classifications in North Carolina. Lee County has outscored its first 5 opponents 231-56 despite missing leading rusher AJ Boulware for two games to injury.
Anson (3-2) has won 3 straight and is currently ranked by MaxPreps as the #7 2A school in the state and ranked #57 for all teams in North Carolina. After losing to Monroe 35-24 and Richmond 33-0 to start the season, the Bearcats have reeled off 3 straight – beating Cuthbertson 42-13, Chesterfield, SC by 43-3 and Jay Robinson by 42-7.
Anson is led offensively by running back Dequan Sturdivant who has 725 yards rushing thus far through 5 games and currently averaging 9.1 yards per carry. QB Wesley Lear is 41 of 81 passing on the season for 738 yards and 9 TD’s. Anson has 1634 yards of total offense on the season.
