Union Pines Wins Wild One Over Cavaliers, 24-23

With a 6-3 score through the first 40 minutes of clock time, the Southern Lee Cavaliers and Union Pines Vikings were locked in a defensive battle. Then six touchdowns in the final 8 minutes – with Union Pines scoring the final one with 3.8 seconds left to defeat the Cavaliers 24-23 at Wilhoit Stadium on the Union Pines campus in Cameron. After a 60-yard touchdown pass from Junior Quarterback DeAndre McAllister to Senior Elijah Foxx put the Cavs ahead for the first time 23-18, the Vikings came back on a 36-yard touchdown pass to claim the win. McAllister finished the game 20 for 31 for 314 yards and 3 TD’s. Elijah Foxx had 7 catches for 188 yards and 2 TD’s and key defensive plays to be our Norman Financial Group/WWGP Sports player of the game. Southern Lee saw their 5-game winning streak snapped and falls to 2-1 in Tri-County conference play and 5-3 overall. Union Pines improves to 2-1 in conference and 6-3 overall. The Cavs return home next week to play Harnett Central.
